Mommy entrepreneurs are some of the most underrated business women out there.
It’s sad but true — lots of entrepreneurs and online professional look down their noses at mompreneurs, thinking they just spend their time changing diapers and planning baby crafternoons. But did you know that there some incredible moms out there who have made their millions with businesses that started off as blogs?
If you’re just writing your mommy blog because you love doing it, then that’s awesome. But sometimes, you want to go that step further and start turning your blog into a brand.
Maybe you’ve been doing the mommy blog thing for a while. Maybe you want to expand, or maybe you want to start monetizing it a bit more?
Whatever the reason, there are a few things you need to bear in mind when you’re going from mommy blog to an established mommy brand.

Have a strategy
It’s important to come up with a strategy on how to turn your mommy blog into a mommy brand. Basically, you need to plan your plan.
Having a business strategy may sound a bit daunting, and you might be thinking it’s way too technical for you. But once you break it down, it will seem a lot simpler.
There are a few things you need to think about when you’re drawing up your strategy as a mompreneur. These are:
- What are your goals?
- How are you going to achieve them?
- How will you measure your success?
- Which brands do you want to work with?
- How are you going to get your name out there?
- What makes you different from other brands in your niche?
There are plenty of beginners guides to business strategies online if you really want to learn more. But essentially, you need to have a plan to decide which direction your business is going to go in.
Formulating a strategy will help you to stick to a plan and achieve your goals — without losing focus or momentum, or wasting money.
Develop your brand
If you’re the proud owner of a mommy blog, then by now you’ve already done a bit of work on things like your name, your tone of voice, and your logo.
To go from blogger to branding boss, you need to develop the ideas that you already have.
The main thing you need to remember is that you have to be consistent with your branding.
This means maintaining a style and tone of voice across your website, blog posts, and promotions. Think about your audience and what they’d like to hear, as well as what you want to get across.
As an exercise, have a look at existing websites for sale to get a feel for how other businesses do a tone of voice and style successfully. As you can see, the site has a simple, clear message and a professional attractive shop front.
Remember that everything needs to sound the same and look the same across your site.
Come up with some branding guidelines for yourself — where you’re going to use your logo, any color schemes and fonts that you want to reflect you, and the images you’re going to use. (Canva is an awesome tool for helping you to do all of this and making your site look pretty!)
If you’re only going to use photos of yourself and your family, it’s easy to have continuity. But if you start using stock images on your website — and these are a free and easy way to make your site look attractive — then you need to set some rules. Aim for similar styles. Try to avoid overused, poor-quality images. Stock images should add value rather than take it away.
Invest time and money
If you’re serious about veering into mommy brand land, you’re going to need to invest some time and money in your venture.
Influencer status and millions of dollars in the bank doesn’t come overnight if you’re a mommy blogger!
But don’t worry, it’s definitely more a case of spending time rather than money. You need to be prepared to spend some extra time on developing your blog — whether it’s an increase in your writing output or promoting yourself on social media. You’ll also need to dedicate time to building and maintaining relationships; networking with other mommies, joining communities, or taking the time to reach out to brands to work with.
On the money side, it’s up to you how much you spend. You may want to invest in a premium WordPress website, a decent camera, or some paid ads on social. The decision is yours.

Get marketing on social media
Moms spend roughly 3 and a 1/2 hours a day online. So really, it makes sense to make the most of this with a strong social media presence. (This will also help with your affiliate marketing or sponsored ads — but more on those later.)
Social media is a great platform to boost your mommy brand. Don’t go too crazy and try to ‘do’ every single social channel in the world. You’ll end up frazzled, rushed for time, and posting poor content.
Stick to maybe three social media platforms and do them well. This means posting interesting content that your mommy followers will find relevant, helpful and engaging.

What to know one of the big differences between a mommy blog and a mommy brand? Money-making.
So you’ve started developing your brand, and you’re writing more and more blog posts all the time, but how does this turn into making money?
If you’re wondering how you’re going to start monetizing your mommy brand, then an obvious place to start is affiliate marketing.
Affiliate marketing is basically when you find a product or something that you really like or make your life as a mom easier, and you share this with your followers. Anytime one of your readers clicks on a link that you’ve posted, you’ll earn a percentage of the profits.
You don’t want to come across as too spammy or superficial with affiliate marketing, so stick to stuff that you would naturally use. The products you post should align themselves with your brand organically, and be something that you genuinely love using.
From here you can build up your relationship with brands and become a brand ambassador. If you’ve managed to accrue a decent-sized army of followers with your mommy blog, big brands will pay you well to endorse their product in sponsored posts on your site or social media. You can even start selling your own products!
Word of warning: remember to follow FTC rules when you’re including affiliate links in your post, and mention at the start of your posts. And if you’re using Instagram, label photos as ‘ad’ or ‘sponsored’ if they are.
If you’re going to be a mommy influencer or big mommy brand, it’s going to take some time and effort. It’s not an instantaneous money-maker; it takes a while to build up momentum, so be patient and enjoy the ride. It’s a challenge, but a fun one — especially if you’re doing something you love.
