How to Start a Blog Step by Step Guide
No Technical Skills Needed
Are you interested in starting a blog but are reluctant because you don’t think you have the technical skills? Trust me, I am not a very technical person but I was able to start a blog with no technical website building knowledge at all!!
Years ago you used to have to know computer programing and a ton of other technical know-how to pull off building a website or blog. Thankfully for all of us, it is easier than ever to start a blog.
Anyone can start a blog in no time and for a very small investment. Whether you are just looking to share some of your knowledge about a certain topic and connect with others, make a bit of extra money on the side or want to turn you blog into a full-time income.
If you are looking to start a blog, I highly recommend starting a WordPress blog and using Bluehost for your hosting needs. I personally use Bluehost and love it. I find it very easy to use and the customer service is awesome.
Bluehost is one of the top hosting sites of 2016 and you can start your own blog for as little as $2.95 per month (this low price is through my link only) and you will get your domain for free, which is a $15 value (if you purchase 12 months of hosting). So if you are ready to take the leap into the blogging world, follow these simple steps to get started now.
Before you begin, you should brainstorm and get some ideas of what you would like your blog’s name to be. I suggest you pick a handful that you would like because there are a lot of dot-com site names out there. You want a website that ends with a .com so you may not be able to get your first name choice.
Let’s Get Started
Now that you have a name you can click on this Bluehost link to get started.
Click on the green get started now button.
Select the plan that you want to purchase. Start off with the basic package for $2.95 per month (you can always upgrade later).
Next you will be asked to pick your domain name. Remember, you want a dot-com web address. If your first choice is taken, try another name from your brainstorm list.
Now you need to add your account information to finalize the process. You will also have the opportunity to purchase extras. You don’t need to do this now, if you decide you want them later, you can always add them.
Once the setup is complete, you will get an email on how to login to your cPanel (control panel) where you will be managing your blog.
Now you are ready to install WordPress. Log into your Bluehost cPanel, scroll down to the website options section and click on the Install WordPress option.
You will be taken to the Bluehost quick install screen for WordPress. Click on the “Get Started” button.
Next you will be asked to select your domain name (website address) then click next.
Now you will be asked to enter your Site Name, username and password. Check all check boxes and click install.
Once the WordPress install is complete you will see a “success” notice on the top header of your screen.
Click on “installation complete” and you will be taken to your WordPress login and password screen.
Great job, you have created your own WordPress website. Your site will look similar to the following screenshot, but not for long.
Now you are ready for the fun part, customizing your site. The way you blog looks and acts is controlled by themes. So you will want to pick a theme for your site. Click on the WordPress icon on the top left corner of the screen to get to your WordPress dashboard. Now click on Appearance, then Themes, then click on the “Add New” button.
On the next screen you will be able to search for a theme you like, there are a ton of free WordPress themes to choose from. You can also purchase a premium theme but I recommend you start with a free theme. Themes can be changed anytime, so don’t worry too much about it now. Once you get going and into the nitty-gritty of customizing your site you may want to purchase a premium theme.
Now that you have found a theme all you need to do is hover over the image and click install. Once the install is completed, click on the activate button.
You should get familiar with your WordPress dashboard before launching your site. Poke around and customize your site to your liking, there are many features and you should get to know your way around.
Once you have your blog up and running, you should check out these awesome resources to help you grow and earn unlimited income from your blog.
You are now ready to start posting away. Congratulations and Good Luck on your new venture!!
