Take the help of the ever-useful plunger we usually use for the toilet, tubs, and sinks. Always keep one at home because you don’t know when it will be handy. Remember to keep them separate according to usage.
Using concentrated acid also can be very useful. It is quite superfluous to mention that acid that too in very concentrated form can be very dangerous if not handled with care. Acid has dissolving potentials and if there is anything clogging your drains and pipes there is a very strong chance that the concentrated acid will certainly loosen its rigidity and help unclog the drain. You are warned that acid must be handled with care and should not have any skin exposure and it can damage your PVC piping.
There is also another simple tip that can avoid instance of clogging. It is good to nip in the bud than wait for big trouble. Use a strainer that prevents undesirable materials from flowing into the drain pipes. Also, you should be careful to not dispose things that can clog, and inhibit the movement of water, like toys and sanitary napkins or tissue papers. A very simple remedy to battle clogged drains; is a remedy that is lying on your kitchen counter. Pour some dish washing liquid down the drain. Then add hot water and leave it for some time, or even overnight. This usually does the trick.
Cleaning the pipe is also another easy solution, there are many plumbing works which are rather difficult, but this isn’t one of them. Just open up the U-shaped pipe and then place a bucket underneath. This will collect the water from the sink. Now you can clean the pipe and flush out all the debris.
Put half a box of baking soda and a cup of vinegar down the drain. The chemical reaction will result in bubbling and foaming and the pressure created will dislodge the clot, but you need to be careful while doing this. You can cover the drain opening with a cloth to protect yourself from the fumes. After a while, continue to flush the drain with boiling hot water for a few minutes.
To keep clogging at bay, you can also make a solution of very strong salt water and pour this solution down your sink. Do this from time to time. The salt will avoid grease buildup too.
Bend one end of a coat hanger to form a small hook. Push this through the drain cover and keep moving it around gently. You’ll be surprised at what you may fish out.
Boil a full kettle of water. When it comes to a full boil, pour the water down the drain slowly. Wait a few seconds to allow the water to work. Then again slowly pour twice or thrice more. Hot water will expand the clog material and then when you flush it with tap water, the clog will cool down and will lose its grip on the pipe surface, which can then be dislodged with a flush of water.
